Former Pussycat Dolls leader/X Factor US judge/X Factor UK judge/Sing-Off judge/Dancing With the Stars champion Nicole Scherzinger has been trying to formulate a successful plan for a solo career takeover in the U.S. since 2007, but unfortunately after two cancelled albums, mediocre charting of a couple of singles and drama surrounding her past girl group, the underrated singer is starting over once again with the release of a new lead single from her upcoming studio album set for release in 2013. The new track, "Boomerang", carries a light pop vibe as it builds up to the "Ohs" that dominate the overly addictive chorus. From the opening line, "The world spit me out/And I was spinning around/Lost in a free fall", the artist is acknowledging the tough time she has had trying to get her solo project to the American audience, but her admirable determination is keeping her from giving up just yet.
The new song may not be as daring or unique as the material found on her
Killer Love album (see "Say Yes", "Don't Hold Your Breath" and "Try With Me"), but its uplifting message and dance-worthy production makes it ready for excessive radio play around the world. The artist's music may not have found a large American audience yet, besides her Top 40 hit "Right There" featuring rapper 50 Cent, but "Boomerang" is upbeat enough to finally set up the release of a debut album for her in the U.S. Scherzinger needs to work together closely with her record label and get the promotion right for the single this time around. Timing is everything.
People can hate on the singer for idiotic reasons, but the truth is that Scherzinger currently has some of the best vocal chops in the music industry. On "Boomerang", even though the lyrics come off somewhat similar to other empowering pop gems in the past, her voices puts the track above anything else being released by the reigning pop stars at the moment. The newly released music video is even a delight to watch. In the three-minute visual, which bares similarities to La Roux's "Bulletproof", Scherzinger flaunts around in chic, leather creations while a kaleidoscope effect produces multiple copies of the gorgeous artist all in black and white. She's seen in front of video cameras, in a bird cage and jumping around with a smile on her face. As a package, the song and video deliver big time. Is this the start of something great for Nicole? I hope so.
