Introducing Presidential Watch Sunday

Introducing
Presidential Watch Sunday
An Unprecedented Look At The Presidency

A man has to be part of the action and passion of his times, or to be judged not to have lived. –Oliver Wendel Homes. (Philosopher and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.)

I am happy to introduce a new feature to Jake's Rolex Watch Blog named Presidential Watch Sunday where we will be exploring photos from the White House every Sunday. What does this have to do with Rolex? Everything and nothing.

When people ask me what Jake's Rolex Watch Blog is, I tell them it is an online only magazine that explores Rolex history, with a strong emphasis on exploring the stories behind the stories. I also tell them I perceive Jake's Rolex Watch Blog as being a cross between Life Magazine, People Magazine and National Geographic.

I think referring to Jake's Rolex Watch Blog as a blog is a misnomer because I am really trying to reinvent what a magazine is for the 21st Century, not to mention, blogs typically have small photos and if you click on them, you may or may not get a medium size photo. If Jake's Rolex Watch Blog is a blog, it really would be a photo blog because the photos are 800 pixels wide by default and with many of them, if you click on them they get much bigger (like with all the photos in this story).

I think paper magazines are terrible for the environment because they waste much paper and use highly toxic ink, plus if you ever want to go back and find something in a magazine it is almost impossible.

In reality, I publish Jake's Rolex Watch Blog with images and content I am interested in, and based upon the viewership it appears my audience seems to appreciate my taste. In my mind, Jake's Rolex Watch Blog is also about exploring leadership and there is no disputing the U.S. Presidency is in many ways the ultimate in leadership.

I wish to emphasize that my coverage has absolutely nothing to do with my political affiliation and for the record, I am politically agnostic. I do like President Obama very much and think he is an extremely charismatic and intelligent leader.

I would like to thank the White House for allowing us unprecedented access in sharing these amazing images that were taken by the extremely talented White House photographer, Peter Sousza and I hope you enjoy Presidential Watch Sunday.

Another great aspect of exploring the White House is that we will get to see many, many great pieces of American art and of course, the White House is supremely elegant and a work of timeless art in-and-of-itself, just like a Rolex.

In this first image below, we see President Obama in the Oval Office and he is wearing a Secret Service Chronograph Watch that was given to him as a gift by the Secret Service on his 46th birthday, when he was running for President. Will we ever see President Obama wearing a Rolex? I hope so. I think it would be really cool if he wore President Eisenhower's or Dr. Martin Luther King's yellow gold Rolex Datejusts.

In the photo below, President Obama listens to comments during a staff meeting in the Oval Office on May 12, 2009. Notice the great portrait of George Washington above his head. I also noticed that they painted the oval office walls in yellow. I believe they used to be pained white.

This next image was taken on May 8, 2009. President Obama was visiting with a White House staff member and his son asked the President if his haircut felt like his own, so President Obama allowed him to see for himself. Notice that the desk in the Oval Office is the desk that JFK used during his administration. The desk was a gift from Queen Victoria to U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1879. To learn more about the fascinating history of the desk, please click here.

That is an original Remington bronze sculpture of a cowboy riding a bucking bronco on the right side of the photo. The White House is a treasure-trove of magnificent American art.

In the photo below, President Obama is playing with a football in the Oval Office on April 23, 2009. These photographs are amazing!!!!

In the photo below, President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden practice putting on the White House putting green on April 24, 2009.

I hope you enjoyed checking out these unprecedented photos as much as I have and I can't wait till the next installment coming up next Sunday.
