Kylie Minogue's "Into the Blue" - Single Review

One of pop music's true legendary goddesses has finally made her triumphant return. Following the release of 2010's fabulous Aphrodite and a recently announced stint as a coach on the UK and Australia versions of The Voice, Kylie Minogue is readying her twelfth studio album with the premiere (or early leak) of the effort's lead single, "Into the Blue". While "Get It Up Ya" feat. Brooke Candy was originally lined up to serve as the album's lead single, plans eventually changed. The new choice brings Minogue back into her comfort zone of soft dancefloor bangers while incorporating the use of piano and string instrumentals. "Into the Blue" showcases the bright, lively sparkle we expect from a lead single off a new Kylie album.

Initially set for release in March, "Into the Blue" was the victim of a very early leak over the weekend. Apparently, Minogue and her team seem unbothered and have already sprung into action by announcing the new single will now be available to stream on January 27. The first impression of the track is the positive emotion it evokes with the first listen, sure to bring a smile to the face of any of Minogue's devoted fans or true lover of the pop genre. Instead of resorting to explicit, suggestive lyrics or a heavy beat as found on previous Aphrodite singles, "Into the Blue" stays fresh, modern and classy, just like the artist herself.

From the gorgeous, unique vocals to the inspirational lyrics of strength and independence, the new song comes together to give Minogue a proper comeback (not counting previous teasers "Skirt" or "Timebomb"). The slick intro paired with soaring instrumentals lead up to not one, but two exceptional choruses that will have listeners singing along. "When I get my back up against the wall, don't need no one to rescue me", Minogue beautifully sings before the golden crooning of the song's title rolls around for the second welcomed dose of pop magic.

Is "Into the Blue" a ground breaking moment in music history? Not really. However, it is THE song we have been patiently awaiting for Minogue to release over the last three years. The single is an applaud-worthy piece of meaningful dance music we do not get to hear very often. The artist has released a track that does not try to duplicate what other artists are doing at the moment. She uses her strong vocals to give her fans a carefree pop track they can blast in their cars or dance the night away to in the club. All in all, the song is a nice welcome back for Miss Minogue!
