The plans for 2013 finalised

So we went down to the club for the Christmas 'do' to discuss plans for next year, enjoy some free food and drinks (paid for from club subscriptions over the year) and possibly get in a couple of games in.

As it was we spent a lot of time discussing options - until the shout for the free food went out.  Cue a stampede (I'm not kidding - small kids would have been trampled to death under the hooves of the grub-hunters running for the buffet table) which led to (for some reason) two queues forming for one buffet (always a great way to start a feeding frenzy).

It is also great to see that social etiquette was closely observed - i.e. people cramming as much onto their plates as possible (some even carrying two plates to get maximum calorific value for their visit) with no consideration that people at the back of the queue may actually want to eat.  I suppose it was lucky that more food was brought out soon after otherwise the last ones in the queue would have had to fight over a chicken leg and a spoonful of rice.

But hey!  Greed is good, right?  Which may explain how the concept of free drinks at the bar - paid for by regular members' subscriptions - seemed to drive a drinking frenzy amongst a couple of groups populated mainly by people who I'd never even seen down at the club.  This didn't stop them hoovering up lager like there was no tomorrow and leading to the announcement that members would now have to buy their own drinks as the bar tab had exceeded £400 by 9:30pm.

You'd have thought that this would have prompted sheepish looks from the table where the empty glasses were piled high - but they were clearly too occupied by sneaking in another whopping free round before the tab was closed.

Ho hum.

Mark points out the double queue anomaly as the feeding frenzy begins.

So onto the plans

With Russ and John not there we had to plan out an itinerary for each month with their general wishes in place.  Here's the result...

January - obscure WW2 Spearhead battles such as Iraq, Eritrea etc. (Ian)

February - Japanese samurai DBR campaign (Me)

March - WW1 Spearhead (Ian and Russ)

April - Grand Armee 1809 (Mark)

May - Victory at Sea (Ian / Mark) possibly Hunt the Tirpitz campaign

June - FoG Ancients (Russ)

July - ACW (John)

For the remainder of the year we suggested...

POW Samurai
War of the Roses
POW 18C mix

As well as a variety of one-off battles and a 'mix' month.  This would include 18C SYW, Roman Civil Wars, Actium (galleys), Battleaxe (WW2 Spearhead), Hong Kong, alternative between the wars (also Spearhead but looking at what if's such as Britain and France taking on the Russians in 1940 etc.)

We also discussed Operation Nostalgia which would require a couple of months (possibly) to play.

And we also started discussing a range of other options such as the Paraguay War in South America, the Great Nothern War, Teutoninc Knights, Huns, Mongols, Chinese, Siam vs Vichy France and many others.

Which will take us to 2016 at least!
