First off I'd like to say that unfortunately the article Jon and I penned for the Lardy Christmas Special didn't make it to print. While we met the deadline, our article was far too long to be included at such a late date. It will have to wait for the Summer Special.
In other news, I've pretty much replaced the entire suspension on my 10 year old Honda CRV and did quite a bit of work on the family Minivan as well. The house has recovered from the Christmas insanity and I've started to get back into hobby mode again.
Now instead of finishing up the painted for GZG and Cold Wars or working on playtesting I've been working on my long term pet project, Ghost in the Shell in 15mm. I really want to create an entire believable world in an urban space. I have a good idea how I'm going to create Section 9 and all of the other agencies with the help of Ground Zero Games, Rebel Minis, The Scene, Khurasan Miniatures and a new player Darkest Star Games who promise some great Anime inspired 15mm in 2013.
But buildings and cars are a bit more difficult. I'd go with HO railroad buildings and cars for Japan, but due to the cramped conditions of Japanese households, most of their model railroading is in N Scale which is 1/150 scale instead of the 1/100 scale of 15mm. Now some of the larger buildings from Kato are used by a few 15mm SciFi gamers, but I haven't tried them yet. Instead I thought I'd build my road network, get some cars and use the buildings I have for now to make a game in a Refugee District instead of trying to recreate a Tokyo downtown.
I found that Tomy Tech make a Toyota Crown Police car in HO (they list it as 1/80 scale) that I figured would be really nice to have. It would clearly establish the location as Japan, but everywhere I looked it was going to cost about $13 minimum with shipping to get one. After much looking I managed to take advantage of a rare window where some Tomy Tech cars were both in stock and part of a December sale at Hobby Link Japan. I managed to pick up a decent collection of Tomy Tech cars without spending an unreasonable amount ($3 to $5 each, plus shipping). It still made me nervous because I hadn't seen them next to any 15mm figures and I was worried they might appear grossly out of scale.
After receiving them I was very happy and put them on some metal bases and gave them a thin coat of matt spray to take away the toyish shine. It frosts the windows, but I think you shouldn't be able to see the plastic interior of a wargaming model. Today I built a few tiles of Worldworks "Streets of Mayhem" paper terrain and took some pictures of my small fleet of Japanese cars.
So here is "The Major" with three emergency vehicles, a Nissan Caravan ambulance, a Toyota Crown Police car (I bought 2), and a Mobile Rescue Bus.
A different angle, so you can see how well they scale. Although listed as 1/80, I can't tell much of a difference with my Model Power HO and 15mm vehicles. Sure they are a little tall, but there really is no other option.
Here Batou arrives in front of the generic government building in a Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-EX. He cuts off some officials from Section 4 in a Nissan Cedric 200. These are so useful for driving around the bureaucrats in GiTs that I bought 2. Also included is a Toyota Crown Taxi.
